It all started in 1955. We started this business with ivory products and
latter in 1990 when ivory was banned all over the world we shifted to
sandalwood products. Our name "Gajdanti" in hindi represents
the God Ganesha. Gajdanti means one who has elephant's teeth and as we
were dealing in ivory products so we chosen that name.
Our establishment is supported by some master craftsman and apprentices
to keep up with increasing demand. Everything is procured directly from
the craftsman living in different parts of the country. Our team keeps
going to different villages and towns traditionally known for producing
particular crafts. Relationship is maintained with several craftsmen for
the same product.
To make a product our craftsmen begin by cutting the hard wooden block
with an electrically operated machine. The hands of expert craftsman are
so trained that they scarcely need to trace outlines. Once the block is
carved into the desired shape, the main crafting - all by hands begin.
Our craftsman constantly labour to bring out the liveliest aspects in
the embossment in our sculptures. The intricate carving on these product
is done with an iron needle. The products are polished twice in the production
process. The polishing technique used is referred to as buffing which
gives the product an extremely elegant finish.
