Business and Economy
The business and the economy of this country is quite similar to that of India as Sri Lankan currency is made up of rupees and also has the currency of cents, with 100 cents making a rupee. There are coins in the value or the denomination of 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and Rs. 1, 2, 5 and 10 that are available to the common citizens for transactions in the daily lives. The higher value denominations are found as notes that come in the form of paper printed notes, namely Rs.10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000. It is advisable to have with you at all times cash in smaller denominations as sometimes it could be a problem to change large notes such as Rs.500 or 1000 notes. The stock market is in a good condition and seems to be in a booming spree that makes the jobs are easier to come by.All this inspite of the global down turn in tourism in recent years and the gulf war which seriously effected the country's tea exports.
The economy has been quite dependent for a long time on agriculture and also the agricutural produce, moreover there were also garment exports.Sri Lanka is rich in Mineral deposits such as Illemanite, Rutile, Graphite and Apatite. Unfortunately the technology for the processing of these raw material cannot be found within the country. There are a lot of major international companies and organisation such as NTT, Shell, and Caltex that have contributed in a large way to the economy of this country trying to realise her potential for quick growth.
There are a lot of small cities that are situated in this country that consitute the economy and also are a part of the revenue that is generated through the way of tourism. However the capital of Srilanka is Colombo. The other cities are Kandy, Galle, Trikomalee, Hikaduwa, Nuwara Eliya.
