How to Choose Projector brightness to suit different needs & applications

The projector brightness comes in a wide range of light outputs. In simple language, Higher the brightness, Costlier the projector (all other parameters remaining the same.)

How to select the right Projector
  1. Strength of gathering in the room: - By knowing the approx size of the area/room / hall & the no. of the viewers, one can choose the optimum brightness.

  2. Light conditions of the room: - If the room is dark, lesser brightness can work, but for a room exposed to sunlight or artificial lights much higher brightness would be required.

  3. Content of the Projection: - What is to be projected to the viewer’s is important, For example, If a graphic presentation is to be shown, a projector with lesser brightness can do but for big workgroups or training sessions, a higher brightness is required.

  4. Size of the Projection screens / Projected Area: - For a Bigger screen size, higher brightness is recommended as the size increase will make the projection dull.

Brightness is measured in ANSI (American National Standard Institute) Lumens.

How to choose resolution of a Projector:-

This parameter defines the clarity or Sharpness of the image. Resolution is defined by the number of pixels used to create the image .Higher the pixels, higher is the resolution .
Resolution is determined by 2 numbers like “800 X 600 “or “1024 X 768 which means no. of pixels from side to side across the screen .

Benefits of the High Resolution: -The concept is “higher is the resolution, clearer is the picture.” With higher resolution you can see more intricate details of the picture than a low resolution projector.

Different resolutions available (Resolution options) :-

SVGA: - 800 X 600 pixels
XGA: - 1024 X 768 pixels
SXGA: - 1280 X 1024 Pixels
UXG A: - 1600 X 1200 Pixels

Important Factors while buying a projector
a) Optimum Brightness
b) Correct Resolution
c) Contrast Ratio
d) Zoom Ratio of the lense
e) Ports available for connectivity
f) Service setup
g) Rear Projection Capability ( back projection )
